Message from Chairman Ali
Over the last five years, The Global Peace and Unity Event (GPU) has grown into a phenomenon that touches millions around the world. With over 50,000 visitors at the last event, it’s recognised as the biggest multi-faith gathering of its kind anywhere across Europe. With the insight, skills and experiences that our internationally renowned speakers bring, the GPU is now better equipped than ever to help shape a more inclusive narrative for all right-minded
people.
Our Event team is working hard to ensure a bigger and more eclectic mix of individuals and organisations, spanning the social, political and religious spectrum, all gathered together for the whole weekend
under one roof.
Today, the need for effective, inclusive vehicles to shape a more progressive and forward-thinking society has never been greater. All of us have an important role to play in supporting such initiatives; we must recognise that non-action is simply not an option, and that we rest on our laurels at our peril.
It’s saddening to see that those groups and individuals who enjoy creating disharmony and divisions in our society have recently been enjoying a renaissance, of sorts, over this last year. We may not like it, but one of the unfortunate side-effects of this harsh economic downturn that we’re experiencing is an increase in support for right wing groups across the UK and Europe. Many sane voices from people such as the Archbishop’s of both Canterbury and York can be heard publicly condemning the likes of the BNP and its ilk, but worryingly, the number of Islamophobic and anti-Semitic attacks continue along a seemingly inexorable upward trend.
The GPU offers a crucial platform for interfaith dialogue and exchange of ideas towards fostering mutual understanding between people from every faith and background in a bid for greater community cohesion.
The GPU exhibition is an excellent place, facilitating great business opportunities alongside family entertainment, sporting and educational programmes.
It’s going to be a weekend of hope and reflection that will present the possibilities of change in the lives of many. Join me and help shape these changes for all of us.
Mohamed Ali
Chairman Global Peace and Unity Events
